Wevival — Terms of Use

By using Wevival, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use it.

These terms are written in plain English on purpose. We would rather you read them.

1. What Wevival is

In 2026, Belkin shut down the cloud servers behind its Wemo line of smart plugs and switches. Devices that people had bought and paid for stopped working.

Wevival is a free service that lets those devices work again. It does this by talking to your plugs directly over your own local network, using the control interface the plugs already have built into their original factory firmware.

To be specific about what we do and don’t do:

• We do not modify, replace, patch, or reflash your device’s firmware
• We do not jailbreak, unlock, or circumvent any security measure, password, encryption, or access control
• We do not use, access, or interact with Belkin’s servers or accounts in any way

Your plugs already speak this protocol on your own network. Belkin’s app simply stopped speaking it to them. Wevival speaks it instead.

2. What Wevival is not

Wevival is not a safety system, an alarm system, a monitoring service, or a life-safety device. It is not certified, listed, inspected, or approved by any standards body, testing laboratory, or regulator.

It is a free hobby project, operated by one small business, with no service level, no uptime commitment, and no support obligation.

3. We are not Belkin

Wevival is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to Belkin International, Inc. in any way.

“Belkin” and “Wemo” are trademarks of Belkin International, Inc. We use those names only to describe truthfully which hardware this service works with. We claim no rights in them. See the Trademark Notice.

Belkin has no obligation to you in connection with Wevival, and we have no relationship with Belkin that would let us speak for them.

4. Safety — read this part

Wevival controls physical electrical equipment. If it fails, the consequences are physical.

The full Safety Disclaimer is incorporated into these terms by reference and forms part of your agreement with us. The short version:

Do not use Wevival for sump pumps, space heaters, medical equipment, refrigeration, aquarium or reptile equipment, security equipment, freeze protection, or anything else where a missed, delayed, or unexpected command could injure a person, harm an animal, or damage property.

Always maintain an independent fail-safe that does not depend on Wevival, your phone, your network, or the internet.

You accept that:

• Commands may fail, arrive late, or not arrive at all
• Commands do not expire. A command issued while your bridge phone is offline will be delivered whenever that phone reconnects — which may be hours or days later, at a time you do not expect and may not be present for
• Schedules are best-effort and may run late, early, or not at all
• You may not be notified when any of this happens

You are solely responsible for what you connect to a Wevival-controlled outlet and for whether that equipment is safe to switch remotely and unattended.

5. Two ways to use it: local-only and connected

Local-only mode — no account required. You can use Wevival without creating an account. The app talks directly to your plugs on your own Wi-Fi network, and we never see what you switch on or off. In this mode you control your plugs only while you are on your home network — no remote control, no sharing, no away-from-home schedules. Two small requests do still reach us even without an account — an update check and a check on which plugs already belong to a home — and the Privacy Policy describes both exactly.

Connected mode — with an account. If you want remote control, sharing with other people, or schedules that run while you’re away, you create an account. Your desired device state is then stored on our servers and relayed to a bridge phone on your network.

Both modes are subject to these terms and to the Safety Disclaimer. The safety risks in Section 4 apply to both modes — a plug that fails to switch is just as dangerous whether the command came from our server or from the phone in your hand.

6. How you get the app, and why that matters

Wevival’s Android app is not distributed through the Google Play Store. You download the APK directly from us and install it yourself.

Please understand what that means.

The only official source is https://wevival.app. If you got Wevival anywhere else — a forum, a mirror, a file-sharing site, a link someone sent you — we did not give it to you, we cannot vouch for it, and it may have been modified. We accept no responsibility whatsoever for any copy of the app not obtained directly from wevival.app.

We publish a SHA-256 checksum and our signing certificate fingerprint on wevival.app, next to the download, along with the command to check them. If the checksum of the file you downloaded matches ours, you have the build we made. If it doesn’t, you have something else — don’t install it, and please tell us.

Installing requires you to allow apps from unknown sources. This is a setting on your phone that lowers its default protection. We recommend you turn it back off once Wevival is installed. You are choosing to make that change to your own device, and we are not responsible for anything else you install while it is enabled.

The app updates itself, and you get the final say. Here is exactly how it works, because you should know what the app does on your phone:

Automatic updating is on by default, and you can turn it off. When it is on, and you have already granted Android permission to install apps from this source, Wevival checks on startup whether a newer release exists. If one does, it downloads that release in the background and hands it to Android’s own installer. Android then shows you its standard confirmation screen asking whether to install the update.

Nothing installs without you tapping to allow it. That confirmation comes from Android, not from us, and we cannot suppress or bypass it. You can cancel it and keep using the app normally — it will not nag you again until your next launch.

Two consequences worth being plain about:

• The confirmation screen you see is Android’s, and it is the same for every release. It does not currently tell you what is in the update. We would like to change that so we can tell you when a release fixes something safety-relevant, and we intend to — but today, a critical fix and a cosmetic tweak look identical to you. Please do not assume an update is unimportant.
• Wevival holds the Android permission to install application packages. It uses that permission for one purpose only — installing its own updates, fetched from our own servers. It will never install anything else.

Android will refuse any update that is not signed with the same key as the copy you already have, which means a substituted or tampered build cannot replace a genuine one.

We strongly recommend leaving automatic updates on. If you turn them off and stop updating, you may be running a version we already know has a defect — one that is controlling electrical equipment in your home.

Essentially nobody has reviewed this app but us. It has not been through any app store’s review process and carries no third-party assurance of quality, safety, or fitness. Android’s built-in Play Protect does scan it on install, and it passes — but that is a malware check, not a review of whether the app works correctly or is safe to put in charge of your equipment.

You may not redistribute, repackage, modify, or re-sign the app, or distribute any modified version, without our written permission. This is not about control — it is about making sure that a copy of Wevival calling itself Wevival is actually ours.

7. Your account and eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create a Wevival account or to use Wevival to control electrical equipment. Wevival is not intended for children and is not directed to children under 13.

Sign-in is by emailed magic link. We store no passwords. Anyone with access to your email can sign in as you — secure your email account accordingly.

You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.

8. Sharing a home with other people

Wevival lets you invite other people into a home and give them permission to control devices in it.

If you invite someone, you are responsible for that decision and for what they do. Give access only to people you trust, at the lowest permission level that works, and remove access when it is no longer needed. We have no way to know whether an invitation was appropriate.

If you are invited into someone else’s home, you are controlling equipment that is not yours. Do not switch anything you do not understand.

If you delete your account and you are the only administrator of a home, that home is deleted with it — along with its devices, rooms, scenes and schedules — and anyone you had invited loses access. If someone else administers the home alongside you, the home stays and only your access is removed. If other people depend on a home you administer, make someone else an administrator before you leave.

9. Acceptable use

Don’t:

• Use Wevival to control devices you do not own or do not have permission to control
• Use it for any unlawful purpose, or to cause harm, nuisance, or damage
• Attack, overload, probe, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service or to other users’ accounts, homes, or devices
• Attempt to impersonate Belkin, us, or another user
• Resell, rebrand, or commercialize the service
• Use automated means to place unreasonable load on the service

We may suspend or terminate any account, at any time, for any reason or no reason — including if we believe these terms have been broken. Because the service is free, you are owed nothing if we do.

10. The service is free, and it can go away

Wevival costs nothing. There is no fee, no subscription, no advertising, no paid tier, and we do not sell data.

Because of that, understand clearly: we may change, suspend, degrade, or permanently shut down the service at any time, without notice, for any reason. We may delete accounts and data. We have no obligation to keep the service running, to preserve your configuration, to migrate you anywhere, or to compensate you in any way.

If Wevival disappears tomorrow, your plugs return to the state they were in before you found us. Please plan accordingly, and please do not build anything important on top of us.

11. No warranty

Wevival is provided “as is” and “as available,” with all faults, and with no warranty of any kind, express, implied, or statutory — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy, quiet enjoyment, availability, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the service will work, will keep working, will be secure, will be timely, will be error-free, will be compatible with your hardware, or will meet your needs.

No advice or information you get from us, in any form, creates any warranty.

12. Limitation of liability

Each paragraph in this section stands on its own. If a court finds any one of them unenforceable, the others remain in force.

(a) Ordinary negligence. To the fullest extent permitted by law, IHS Web Design LLC (doing business as Teagles Consulting), Team Palani LLC, and their respective owners, officers, members, employees, contractors, and assigns are not liable for loss or damage arising out of or related to Wevival that results from ordinary negligence.

(b) What we do not attempt to disclaim. We do not disclaim, exclude, or limit liability for gross negligence, recklessness, willful misconduct, fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Nothing in these terms should be read as attempting to.

(c) Indirect and consequential damages. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data or business interruption, even if we were advised of the possibility.

(d) Property damage. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for property damage of any kind — including water damage, fire damage, damage to or loss of equipment, and spoiled food or medication — is limited to one hundred United States dollars (US $100.00).

(e) Personal injury. Some jurisdictions do not permit any limitation of liability for personal injury or death, and several treat such a limitation as invalid on its face. Where that is the law, this paragraph does not apply and we do not seek to limit that liability. Where a limitation is permitted, our liability for personal injury is limited to the maximum extent the law allows.

(f) Savings. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or damages. In those jurisdictions, the exclusions and limitations above apply only to the maximum extent permitted by law, and each is to be reformed to the greatest extent enforceable rather than struck entirely. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that cannot lawfully be limited.

13. Indemnification

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless IHS Web Design LLC, doing business as Teagles Consulting, and Team Palani LLC, and their respective owners, officers, members, employees, contractors, and assigns, from any claim, demand, loss, liability, damage, cost, or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to:

• Your use of Wevival
• Equipment you connect to a Wevival-controlled outlet, and any damage or injury it causes
• Access you granted to any other person
• Your breach of these terms or of any law
• Your violation of anyone else’s rights

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or to Wevival will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Ottawa County, Michigan, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will post the updated version at https://wevival.app/terms with a new effective date and version string.

Changes apply going forward only. A change to these terms never applies retroactively, and never affects any claim that has already arisen. The terms that govern a dispute are the ones in force when the events happened.

For material changes — particularly to safety language, privacy, or limitation of liability — we will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email or in-app notice, and we will ask you to accept the new version before it applies to you. If you don’t want the new terms, you can stop using Wevival and delete your account; that is your exit.

Non-material changes (fixing a typo, clarifying wording that doesn’t change your rights) take effect when posted.

We will never make a change “effective immediately upon posting” and treat your silence as agreement to something material.

16. Miscellaneous

Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, it is modified to the minimum extent necessary or severed, and the rest stays in force.

No waiver. If we don’t enforce something, that isn’t a waiver of our right to enforce it later.

Entire agreement. These terms, together with the Safety Disclaimer, Trademark Notice, and Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding Wevival.

Survival. Sections 4, 6, 11, 12, 13, and 14 survive termination.
